About us

Salford City Council is very pleased to be offering the opportunity to work within its Planning Service as its Heritage Commission Coordinator.

Salford is a city with a rich heritage which is a source of local pride to many in its communities and contributing to the city’s character and identity. Heritage needs support to remain in a good condition, including investment in its fabric and imagination in its use. Salford City Council is committed to establishing a Salford Heritage Commission, which would work to find innovative opportunities to secure and restore the city’s important heritage. The Heritage Commission would have the aim of giving a sustainable future top the city’s heritage, building upon and reinforcing the city council’s wider aims and aspirations for placemaking and heritage.

About the role

The role will have report to the Head of Planning, but will work across the city council’s development activity and with its partners.

The Heritage Commission Coordinator would be the key role to set up and manage the operation of the Heritage Commission. This role would be responsible for convening the Heritage Commission, developing its terms of reference and work programme, and collaborating with a wide range of partners to achieve outcomes. The role-holder would have a prominent position in Salford’s heritage network, and would engage with partners from the public, private and community sector.

About you

Your style and approach will reflect our values.

We’re looking for someone who will be enthusiastic about the city and its heritage for this post. You should have experience engaging and negotiating with a broad range of partners to secure commitment to outcomes, and be familiar with the process of identifying and accessing opportunities for funding from a wide range of sources.

You should have experience and expertise in managing and delivering projects. You should be happy working with initiative and be able to find novel approaches to overcome challenges. You should be enthusiastic about and interested in built heritage, but a formal qualification in this area is not a requirement for the role.
