Plans due in 2024 for former GMP HQ in Stretford
Far East Consortium, Trafford Council, and Greater Manchester Combined Authority have teamed up to build more than 700 homes on the nearly nine-acre site off Chester Road.
FEC’s appointment as development partner for the former Greater Manchester Police headquarters site was reported by Place earlier this month. Now, Trafford has confirmed the partnership and unveiled a bit more information on the scheme.
Of the more than 700 homes proposed on the former GMP HQ site, 25% would be affordable. The site can also accommodate a 112-bed hotel, offices, shops, and a food hall.
A planning application is due to be submitted to Trafford Council in autumn next year.
“This scheme, if approved, will provide hundreds of much-needed homes for residents and make strides towards our carbon neutral policies,” said Cllr Tom Ross, Leader of Trafford Council.
The Chester Road site is also part of the wider 135-acre plot that is the focus of Trafford Council’s Civic Quarter Area Action Plan. This plan seeks to enable the delivery of 4,000 homes. Glenbrook’s 639-home neighbourhood at Lumina Village is also part of this CQAAP.
Tom Pool, investment director at FEC, said the developer could not wait to get started on the former police HQ site.
