Established in 2007, Place North West is a business-to-business website for property and regeneration professionals in the North West.
Place North West publishes news, comment, event listings, job vacancies, in-depth special reports and professional advice on a broad subject range but with a strict regional focus.
In addition to our online publishing, Place North West also delivers the region’s best industry events, from breakfast meetings and conferences to client events and socials.
Place North West reports on activity in Manchester, Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Merseyside, Preston, Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire, Warrington and North Wales.

Editorial
Julia Hatmaker - Editor
Julia is a veteran multimedia journalist, who joined the team in 2021. She comes to Place from the United States, where she worked for nearly a decade at the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper The Patriot-News and its website, PennLive.com. In 2020, she was named one of the 25 rising stars of journalism under the age of 35 by Editor & Publisher, the American newspaper trade magazine.
Dan Whelan - Senior reporter
Dan graduated with a First Class honours degree in journalism from the University of Salford in 2015, before moving to Spain to work as an English language teacher. During his four years in Spain, he worked as a freelance sports reporter, covering football for a variety of publications. Dan joined Place North West in January 2020.
Sophie Rennie - Reporter
Sophie graduated with a distinction in Media and Journalism from Newcastle University in 2022. Throughout her time at university she wrote for a variety of online publications, before moving to Manchester to join Place North West.
David Thame - Analysis editor
David has more than 30 years’ experience covering the region’s property industry. He is responsible for producing The Subplot and contributing broadly to the editorial management team. The Subplot focuses on getting behind the headlines and examining the issues affecting the industry, as well as the significant role the North West plays in the national economy.
Sales
Dino Moutsopoulos - Managing partner, head of commercial
Dino has more than 21 years of experience in business development and growing brands. Specialising in event sponsorship, Dino has worked both nationally and internationally, winning work with global brands and SMEs alike. Dino is responsible for managing the commercial team as well as the development of new sales and commercial products. He holds an MA in Communications and Public Relations from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Lucy Hinds - Commercial assistant
Lucy graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Environment and Planning. Following a placement at Place, Lucy joined full time to support the commercial team across all three publications.
Louise Hall - Business development manager - Yorkshire & North East
Louise has more than 25 years’ experience in business development. From Middlesbrough originally, she is a graduate of Teesside University and has lived in West Yorkshire for 23 years. She joined Place North in 2023 to focus on expanding Place Yorkshire and Place North East.
Products & Events
Kirsty Butcher - Managing partner, head of product
Kirsty, a graduate of the University of Manchester, joined Place in 2015. She leads on the delivery and development of Place products, projects and operations.
Laura Davies - Event director
Laura has more than 10 years of events experience. After graduating from Bangor University, she began her career in event management at a bilingual communications consultancy. In 2013 she moved to Manchester, working in the events team of a B2B publishing company, before joining Place North West in November 2018.
Annaliese Hesketh - Event producer
Annaliese graduated with a First Class honours degree in Event Management from Leeds Beckett University. Having worked at an event publicist, she joined Place North West in March 2021 to assist with the busy calendar of conferences and socials.
Molly Williamson - Event assistant
After graduating with an MA from the University of Leeds in 2017, Molly spent three years working in ski and summer resorts in France and Austria before coming back to Manchester in 2020. Having worked in education events, Molly joined Place North West in 2023 to assist the team on its expanding events calendar.
David Booth - Content producer
David graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in Filmmaking and went on to work behind the camera for four years creating videos and digital marketing content for a recycled plastic manufacturing company in Lancashire. David joined in March 2020 to grow the video and content offering at Place North West.
Daniel Coetsee - Content producer
Daniel graduated from Birmingham City University with a degree in Film & Animation. He has worked as a freelance videographer in the property, furniture and care industries and various content marketing roles. He joined Place North West in March 2022 to further expand Place North West's digital offering. He also leads on our jobs platform.
Office Management & Accounts
Fiona Davies - Office manager
Fiona has a degree in Marketing with Management from Aberystwyth University. Before joining Place in March 2022, she was Property Manager for a development company based across Saudi Arabia and Greater Manchester. She positively assists and supports all aspects of the business to ensure its smooth running.
Founder
Paul Unger - Publisher
Paul founded regional trade title Place North West in 2007. He started in journalism as a graduate trainee on the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo, rising to become business editor of the Daily Post. After moving into freelance business reporting, he spent six years as North West features writer for Property Week, before creating Place.
